ECOVC has put a lot of emphasis on education of orphans and other vulnerable children. Many talented and gifted boys and girls are never adequately supported and are therefore, denied an opportunity to achieve in education. This is due to social, cultural and economic factors. ECOVC interventions therefore provide the OVC’s with knowledge and skills that help them in making decisions that will make a positive impact in their lives, and also motivate them to excel in their education. ECOVC has further made efforts to create awareness and solicit for support for promotion of OVC’s education at different levels targeting key stake holders. Therefore there still great need for continued collaboration with all the key stakeholders in education if we have to achieve the target of Education For All (EFA)

Education Concern for Orphans and Other Vulnerable Children (ECOVC) is a Non Governmental Organization. Formed in 2008, ECOVC is the fruit of four visionary and distinguished Men and Women who resolved to act against the appalling state of orphans and vulnerable children’s education in Uganda. The International Education Forum that met at Jomtien, Thailand in 1990 resolved to achieve EFA by 2000. More so in September 2000 during the UN Millennium Summit world leaders agreed to the universal access to primary education by 2015. There for these visionary men and women knew that education for all was impossible, unless all children were given a push. The emphases was to work towards closing the gender gap and eliminate inequalities that have for long existed in the education sector more especially marginalizing the least advantaged children like the disabled, orphans among others. ECOVC networks with other organizations committed to improving the lives of vulnerable children in Uganda, translating her mission at national level.

OBJECTIVES OF ECOVC

ECOVC aims at achieving the following:

·         To bring lasting solutions that cater for orphans and other vulnerable children’s physical and educational needs.

·         To transform the struggling lives of vulnerable children in a way that gives them hope and a bright future.

·         To advocate, support and strengthen policies that promote the plight and social-well being of orphans and other vulnerable children.

·         To create a protective environment for orphans and vulnerable children that ensures they live a happy and healthy life free from abuse and discrimination.

·         To empower and build awareness among the orphans and other vulnerable children, their families so as to integrate and make them less vulnerable to violence, abuses and exploitation in society.
